Jim completes his work quickly, cost effectively and with skill. We hired HHS to complete a dormer on our upstairs, cleanup drywall and install trim in the basement, and install some bathroom fixtures and cabinetry. All work was completed to our satisfaction, for a fair price and in a timely manner. We will definitely hire him again for future home projects.

I would certainly recommend Jim Hanright and his team at Hanright Builders. My wife and I worked with Jim from September 2016 to November 2016 on a $65K kitchen and bathroom renovation. The project was for a Townhome in Lincoln Park, Chicago. The project involved removing a wall between the kitchen and dining room, new kitchen cabinets, refinishing hardwood floors, splitting a large jack-and jill bath into two separate bathrooms (master and hallway), relocating a washer and dryer closet, and various miscellaneous tasks. My wife and I did not use a designer and picked most of the finishes, cabinets, bathroom fixtures, and tile on our own. We also did most of the layout on our own, as being a Civil Engineer I am fairly comfortable with spatial design. We also did all the painting and trim. So I cannot speak to those items.

Pros to Hanright Builders:

• Fully insured, strong contract, and fee tracking.

• Stayed well with in the 10 week timeline of completion.

• The estimate was very close to the final costs. We did not have many budget overages and the reasons were clearly outlined for upgrade counters, sealing special slate floors, or similar.

• Jim has a very strong network of subcontractors and employees for demolition, plumbing, dry wall, tile, finish carpentry, hardwood refinishing, and counter tops.

• Jim is a Kohler certified contractor and has contacts at Studio 41 that can help with bathroom fixture decisions.

• Jim was very reactive to areas of concerns or adjustments we felt needed to occur. Jim did his best to correct issues as soon as possible. He even had the entire flooring resurface a third time to cover a scratch during construction at no additional cost.

• Even when Jim had a personal situation during the project, the production timeline still continued with no major noticeable lag.

Cons to Hanright Builders:

• The price and final outcome was very good for our moderate to semi-high level of finishes. If higher end products and finishes are desired a more expense G.C maybe required. We were comfortable with Hanright based on our needs and the level of comfort we felt with Jim in his initial communication. He even originally came out a year prior to this project for a quote and then returned when we had the funds a year later.

• We did a lot of leg work buying tile, cabinets, picking bath fixtures (Jim did deliver the bath room items to the project), and determining layout. Not sure if Jim has those capabilities but we did not request them in our pricing quote. Might recommend using a designer to fill this void if needed.

• I did have to do daily checking to make sure install was occurring to our needs. Examples: Had to verify shower height for taller people, had some switches that were initially going to be behind the door swing radius. But Jim was very reactive to these needs including repairing minor divots to a shower basin at no additional cost.

• Electrician and team were a little messy and less precise on outlet locations for my personal liking, granted he was going from hand drawings I provided.

Overall we were very pleased with our final product. The kitchen and baths are both beautiful and we have nearly forgotten the burden that comes with home renovation. I think the biggest thing to recommend about Hanright is the commitment to schedule. The team always showed up when scheduled and complete elements in the timeline described. We will highly consider Jim for any future work.
